Low-Emission Oils: The Ultimate Guide to Low-SAPS Lubricants
Since the creation of the Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPFs), low-SAPS oils have gained immense popularity.
Traditional engine lubricants use performance-boosting additives, such as phosphorus and sulfur. They have impressive anti-wear and antioxidant features. However, phosphorus and sulfur may damage the depolluting after-treatment system that eliminates pollutant emissions.
That is why oil manufacturers have designed a series of oils that have low levels of sulfur and phosphorus. In the automotive lubricants industry, we call them low-emission or low-SAPS oils.
